Northumbrian Adventures
I am away in Northumbria! I am writing at the end of an idyllic day. I hope I can pass on some of the tranquility and beauty.
My day started with an early alarm and sunrise at the beautiful St. Mary's island. At low tide there is a causeway across but not this morning. I love this coming and going and the sense of visitors being allowed only by Nature's special invitation.
I then moved up the coast. Northumberland beaches are known for their wild beauty and dramatic castles. My afternoon was spent walking along the sands towards Dunstanburgh castle. Perched on a rocky headland, the old ruins are a striking sight. The curved sandy bay leading round to them is lined with sandunes and spiky marram grass and stretches for miles. Today the sea was calm and gentle waves lapped on to the shore. A pale blue sky hosted patches of white cumulus clouds. There was a soft cool breeze. Terns were screeching and plummet diving just off shore. The beach was almost deserted. It was wonderful.
And a highlight of my day was a boat trip to the Farne Islands, famous for their wildlife. The trip was awesome. We landed on an island where thousands of puffins breed. It was very moving and a deep privilege to be close to so many of these amazing birds. Unforgettable.
It has been a day of profound natural beauty. I feel nourished, reverent and deeply grateful. Divine gifts today.

This week's self kindness invitation is to seek out some still time for yourself. Hopefully somewhere or with something you find beautiful where you can take time to dwell a while. Such deep nourishment in this.
Go well.
In warmth and kindness
Barbara
