Finding Growth and Hidden Treasures Within Us
Sometimes, self-compassion can begin with something as simple as slowing down and noticing what is growing around us.
In this Self-Compassion Stroll, Mary T takes us to a beautiful garden in Denmark while visiting a friend. Surrounded by trees, flowers, water, berries, birds, and sunlight, she invites us to pause and take in the beauty of this little paradise.
But as Mary explores the garden, she also encourages us to turn our attention inward.
How Are You Today?
Mary gently asks:
How is your heart?
How is your spirit?
How is your body?
These simple questions give us an opportunity to check in with ourselves rather than simply rushing through the day.
She also invites us to consider how willing we are to receive the appreciation, love, and wonder that others have for us—and how we might reflect that kindness back into the world.
Noticing Our Growth
Throughout the garden, Mary notices signs of growth everywhere.
New leaves are emerging. Flowers are blooming. Trees are preparing to produce fruit. Tiny pine cones are beginning their own journey of growth.
These little details remind us that our own growth can sometimes be quiet and easy to miss.
Mary asks us to consider how we're doing in our practice, in our relationships, and most importantly, in our relationship with ourselves.
What small signs of growth can you notice in yourself?
Discovering Our Hidden Treasures
As Mary looks around the garden, she notices little treasures tucked away among the trees and plants.
This becomes a beautiful reminder that we may have hidden treasures within ourselves too—qualities, strengths, gifts, and experiences that are waiting to be discovered.
What might be growing quietly within your heart, spirit, mind, or body?
And how might those treasures nourish both you and the people around you?
Learning to Dance With Life
Mary also notices the flowers dancing in the breeze and asks us:
“How about your dancing? Have you been able to dance lately?”
Life will always bring its own breezes and unexpected challenges. But our mindful self-compassion skills can help us meet those moments with greater kindness and care.
Perhaps you've had a recent win.
Perhaps you've navigated a difficult moment with more compassion than you would have in the past.
Perhaps you've simply managed to keep going.
These moments matter.
A Gentle Invitation
This stroll reminds us that we don't always have to look for something extraordinary to practice self-compassion.
Sometimes, we can simply pause.
Notice the sunlight.
Appreciate the flowers.
Feel the breeze.
Celebrate new growth.
And remember that there may be beautiful things growing within us too.
So, take a moment today to ask yourself:
What is growing in me?
What am I learning?
What hidden treasures might I discover if I slow down and look a little closer?
And whatever you find, meet it with kindness.
Go gently. 💙
